My Project

My name is Frannie and I’m a sophomore in High School. I’m working on a service project for Girl Scouts which is called a Girl Scout Gold Award.  For my project, I decided to work with a local school district to add Mason Bee houses to the elementary schools in the district with gardens. For the past few years the decline of  bees has really become an issue and Mason Bees are a native, more efficient alternative to honey bees.

I have created this website to provide easily accessible, safe, information to elementary school-aged students, both Spanish and English speaking.

For my project I made a plan and recruited an advisor. She works with the Xerces society which is a program that works to conserve insects. I presented my Gold Service plan which was approved by the council.

First I met with a local Girl Scout troop and presented the value of Mason bees. Then we built our 8 mason bee houses to be installed at various school gardens around the school district.

Then I contacted schools we installed houses and put out bees and tubes. I also talked to green teams and garden clubs at other schools where the principal wouldn’t let me put up the be houses.

I have also presented my project to the Cedar Mill Garden Club.
